High School Student survives Cardiac Arrest on Track field because of trained and equipped Coaches

A happy ending to yet another sudden cardiac arrest case involving a High School student. This scary incident happened in Bloomfield, New Jersey on March 11, 2016.

The young athlete collapsed on the track field and was immediately treated by her coaches, who were trained in CPR and also had an AED on site. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to have a speedy recovery. The student had a heart surgery when she was younger – scar tissue from that surgery is most likely the cause for her sudden cardiac arrest.

This story is another reminder  to ensure coaches and teachers know exactly how to act in a life threatening situation like this. Every second counts when a heart suddenly stops beating. Another crucial element in ensuring the best immediate treatment is an AED –  the AED that saved this students life was just purchased last spring.
