Physicians/PA CPR Requirements

New Jersey has requirements for Physicians - they must be certified by an accredited training center like LifeSavers, Inc. for CPR, PALS, and Basic Life Support (BLS).

New Jersey Physicians/PA CPR Requirement

New Jersey In-Hospital care requires a valid certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the level of the Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider issued by the American Heart Association.

Based on patients wishes they may request DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) requirements. These requirements are important for physician’s order or directive address to your emergency medical responders indicating the predetermined request by the patient (or the patient’s guardian or surrogate) to withhold CPR and other end-of-life resuscitative treatments once breathing and/or heart beat has ceased. It is the patient’s choice and directive to be allowed to die without emergency intervention.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) protocols mandate the initiation of CPR for all patients who are in cardiac arrest, unless they are obviously dead or they are presented with a written DNR order signed by a physician and recognized as valid in the State of New Jersey.
